Le '80s Sushi

I recently purchased Raw Like Sushi from Neneh Cherry at like 2 o'clock in the morning when I was surfing the net. I was on a whole '80s roll, listening to Taylor Dayne and just letting YouTube guide me from one track to another until I ended up with Neneh and decided I must own Inna City Mama for inspirational purposes. Raw Like Sushi was my favorite album when I was 9 years old. My sister had a taped version and the cover of the cassette had been spray painted in red by some kid on our bus. I used to listen to it, like, all the time. We still have the tape, as my sister the '80s child reminded me when I told her I ordered the CD. She was however stumped when I asked her how to get it onto my computer or iPod.

In the end, 2-in-the-morning me was totally right. Hearing Kisses on the Wind and Phony Ladies took me back to when I was an energetic 9 year old, my whole life ahead of me and free to carve out whatever future I wanted. And last week, standing there, a slightly tired, confused and disappointed 26 year old, listening to the songs reminded me that I still have my whole life ahead of me and my future to shape as I please.

PS.

I have finally entered the world of eBay with my first iPod cover: http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320076922025&ssPageName=ADME:L:LCA:DE:31. All proceeds go the The Escape Fund.

I am not reading good things about Studio 60. I have not seen the last two episodes so I can't really make up my own mind...but getting caught on a roof? Pulease.

Favorite song of the day: Breathless from Corinne Bailey Rae. Love the song. Love the lyrics (see below).

Breathless by Corinne Bailey Rae & Marc Nelkin

Seems like everyone else has a love just for them,
I dont mind, we have such a good time,
My best friend, but sometimes, well,
I wish we could be more than friends,
Tell me do you know?
Tell me do you know?
oh..

I get so breathless, when you call my name,
I've often wonderd, do you feel the same?
There's a chemistry, energy, a synchronicity
When we're all alone,
So don't tell me
You can't see
What im thinking of.

I can understand that you don't want to cross the line,
and you know i can't promise you things,
will turn out fine,
But i have to be honest, I want you to be mine
Tell me do you know?
Tell me do you know?
oh...

I get so breathless, when you call my name,
I've often wonderd, do you feel the same?
There's a chemistry, energy, a synchronicity
When we're all alone,
So don't tell me
You can't see
Oh!

Cause ive tried to do this right in your own time
I've been telling you with my eyes, my heart's on fire,
Why dont you realise?
Tell me do you know?
Tell me do you know?
I get so breathless...

PSSSS.
Good night.

Le Tax Accountant

Jeremy Piven in Entourage

Should I be concerned that my tax accountant uses msn messenger while he's at work? Sure, I IM at work occasionally - when there is nothing to do and it is strictly work related. But this guy is dealing with my money and it is a little worrying when he is typing in my yearly numbers while simultaneously clicking "away" on his profile. And yes, albeit it is amusing that Hans, with the duck picture on his profile, had a hot date last night, it is also a bit distracting when I am handing over receipts and explaining what they are for. But I'm sure he knows what he's doing. I mean, neither of us has ended up in jail yet for tax fraud so I assume it's all good.

I managed to get through all of Studio 60 twice and Entourage - both of which I LOVED. I read today that they are gearing Studio 60 towards a 'romantic comedy' ...let's hope they don't screw it up too much. I love the show as it is at the moment and don't think it needs to turn into a whole Ross & Rachel episode.

The not smoking continues well :). It isn't too bad when I look at it one cigarette at a time and I don't think of smoking unless I am a) Bored b) Waiting for something c) Drinking or d) Others are smoking around me while drinking.

How are you?

Le Goodbye and Studio 60

Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip

It is sad when you have to say goodbye to cigarettes from your life, especially when they feel like a relief and constant companion. According to my Angel Meditation cards they were my angel of Sharing:

Sharing is a sacred moment. To give and receive becomes the most intimate communication between two or more beings. Whoever communes participates in the One Spirit of Life.

The description fits. I will definitely miss smoking, I mean we have been together for like five years. It would be rude not to miss it a little. Especially how it had the magic ability of making the bus coming faster and at the same time making a cup of coffee last much longer. There is something about sitting at a café with a pack of cigarettes that says, "to hell with life, I am living for the moment". Though there is also something about coming home after a smoky night out and tasting and smelling like an ashtray. It was time to let go.

Tomorrow I will be getting a bunch of Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip episodes. I cannot wait!! I love that show and am stoked that NBC has bought it for the entire season. And I will also be going to IKEA tomorrow. Which means I will spend my weekend in a furniture store and then in bed watching TV shows. Bet you’re all really jealous, because there is no way you can top that. But that’s okay, I would be too.

Have a lovely weekend!

Love,
Breens-to-the-LO

Le Writer's Block

Happy New Year everyone! In case you haven't noticed, I have writers block. Until I regain my ability to write coherently I will be communicating with you through music, photos, links and knitting projects. I think it will be kind of fun for you to try and gauge my mood according the colors I have chosen for my iPod covers. 'Hmmm, sparkles - emphasizes a bad hangover.' 'Stripes, connoting a bad day at work.'

Anyhoo, meanwhile, check out a video of the Windows 95 guide starring Matthew Perry and Jennifer Aniston in a 'cyber sitcom'. It's AWFUL. I mean, Matthew Perry saying things like 'No messy DOS buildup' in that enthusiastic Friends way. Enjoy!
