Le Anna Sui

Anna Sui NY Fashion Week - Courtesy of Style.com

Another tidbit from NY Fashion Week (I know, I know, sooooo two weeks ago. I'm not a bit Anna Sui fan although I like that she's so colorful and creative. This collection is a little Pirates of the Caribbean meet Vivienne Westwood in Alice in Wonderland. I like the boots in the picture below, although I don't know if I could pull them off.

Le Rodarte

When Fabric Gets Out Of Hand - Rodarte Courtesy of Style.com

NY Fashion Week was devastated last week by the scandals that rocked the Rodarte show. I'm sure you've heard the story. Apparently a big bow and flower had wild sex right before the show, and procreated all over the clothes. The designs were subsequently covered in bow and flower babies and presented like that on the runway. Yeah. It's all the fashion people have been able to talk about all week. Awful. But that's the risk you take when you work with fabric. Sometimes it just gets out of control and horrible things happen.

Le Princess and Kate Bush

A Zac Posen Creation Fresh off the Runway. Courtesy of Style.com

I finally found decent-looking speakers for the iBook today. They are very mini, shiny white and simply pretty. And - best of all, they get along with my iPod Nano, which means I have the tiniest stereo in the world now. Absolutely awesome.

While I was at it, I also bought Hounds of Love by Kate Bush and B'Day from Beyonce. I love "Ring the Alarm". It is a bit aggressive, but kinda makes me want to listen to Eminem. Sometimes aggression is good as long as it's just the music. And Kate Bush is perfect for those quiet states of mind.

I discovered a really cool game today called Vera Wang Princess which tells you what kind of princess you are. I happen to be a rock & roll princess, which I am very happy with.

What kind of princess are you?

Le Conversations with Boy George

Boy George Le Fabulous DJ - Munich, September 7, 2006

Me: I think you're fucking fabulous
Him: [Eyes light up] Oh are you American?
Me: Yeah
Him: Where are you from?
Me: [shit shit shit] I live here in Germany
Him: Yeah but where in America are you from?
Me: [quietly] My parents are from Azerbaijan...
Him: Where?
Me:[pondering whether to make something up or launch into five hour story of where I am from] New York
Him: Oh [goes back to his albums]

Boy George Le Fabulous DJ - Munich, September 7, 2006

I love Boy George. I went to see him DJ for the first time earlier this year and was enthralled. My sister (the 80's child) was the biggest Boy George fan when she was 13 years old (I was 4), which means that I grew up on his music. When he smiles, he reminds me of how my sister was when she was a teenager, so full of life. In my mind, he is the way she was then, equally as passionate and energetic. He just puts on his music, grins cheekily and is simply happy. I love it. It takes me back to my rosy-colored childhood. And I love how he is nice to people. He lets them take photos, dance on stage, and signs album covers for them. He didn’t give a fuck about anyone.

Le Mini Urban Lifestyle Tourbus - Munich, September 7, 2006

Munich seemed to be full of life that night, the first time I've ever seen it like that when it isn't Octoberfest or the World Cup. First of all there was the Mini event where Boy George DJed. I also spotted two MTV VJs there and was very excited (Patrice and another one).

Then, Prada was open at 9 o'clock at night. There was a doorman outside and a velvet rope. We couldn't figure out why but there you go. And then Perfume premiered in Munich and we stumbled upon the after party:

We thought about sneaking in but didn't bother.

Glass Booth and Gigantic Speaker for the Pope - Munich, September 7, 2006

And preparations were underway for the Pope's visit to Munich this weekend. Unfortunately I was beer-gardening and didn't get to see the pope. But that's okay, I still thoroughly enjoyed myself hanging out with friends and catching some sun. The rest of my weekend was pretty chill. I learned to crochet flowers, which is nice :). And now I am about to pass out, so time to put some Scrubs on and go to sleep.

Le Conversations with the P1 Doorman

Me: [Teetering towards the entrance of the club, slowly, in heels, trying not to fall over]
Him: [Letting my friends in]
Me: [Strutting at a faster pace to catch up with friends and get let in] [I finally get to the door]
Him: [He stops me at the door. Sirens go off and a gate comes crashing down the entrance of the club. I am swarmed by militia ninja policemen dressed in black while a helicopter flies over my head. He pulls out a note pad and writes me a speeding ticket.] Do you know how fast you were going? Here is your fine. Pay at the bar.
Me: Does this fine come with a free drink?

I swear this is exactly what happened when I tried to get into P1 (the club in Munich). Except there were no sirens. Or gates. Or militia ninja policemen. Or helicopter. Yeah. It was kind of just me and him and a friend of mine. And by 'pulls out a note pad and writes me a speeding ticket' I actually I mean 'he stops me at the door, says "not so fast", makes me wait until he has asserted his power and satisfied his inferiority complex, and then he lets me in'. Eh. At least I got to dance to a remix of SexyBack.

Le Desert Child

Louis Vuitton in the Desert. Courtesy of Live Journal

When my cousin first got here from Israel, she loved the rain. She would stand in front of an open window, lean her head back, close her eyes and let the wind and rain put out the sweltering heat she seemed to have brought with her from foreign lands, all the while exclaiming, "eh ze keff!" (oh how fun!). A desert child cooling herself with German winds.

When she went to the English Garden, out would come her Chesire cat smile. The river refreshed her sandy soul, and soothed her as it flowed by in rhythm, as rivers and streams do. The swings, on the other hand, brought out the child in her. She would grin, her eyes shining, as she went higher and higher.

It’s weird. When I saw her smile, her whole little face bright, I viewed her not as a child but as an 18 year old, remembering her time in Germany in patches. Her memory will be tainted with what parts she chooses to remember; the hours spent missing home, the moments spent staring intently at the river while the breeze plays with her hair. She won’t know how she once was, how she smiled, how she was a child. It might come back to her occasionally, perhaps while she fixes her hair, applies her make-up, dresses up and heads off into the night, enjoying her newborn adulthood.

PS
I introduced my 35 year old sister to youtube.com yesterday. A child of the 80s, she can't get enough :).

Le Zipper

Audrey Hepburn - Always poised no matter what
Courtesy of www.artwallpaper.com

The zipper on my pants broke this morning while I was at work. So everytime I left my desk, I walked really fast and had to hide behind chairs and stuff when I talked to my collegues. On my way home on the bus, I had to keep my thick coat on in the heat and cover my lap. Kinda like those dirty men on the subway who jerk off to pubescent girls. You know, perverts.

When I turned 26 I promised myself I would be poised. It was the one thing I really wanted. Happy – too hard. Thin – uh, keep dreaming. But poised, now that seemed achievable. But what did I do instead? Things like, oh I don't know - repeatedly bump my head into the Starbucks sign when I was sitting on the couch under it and hit myself in the face with the phone at work. And fall into the street, in front of a car. And two days ago, I walked into a pole when saying good bye to friends. Sure I was consoled by the cute guy with crystal blue eyes afterwards. But still. Was it poised? I think not.

My current wish for 26? Stay alive and remotely in one piece.
