Le Virus

The whole city has been taken over by a virus. Signs of distress are everywhere you go, just like the plague. Ninety percent of the German population has been infected and the government doesn’t seem to be doing much about it. They actually seem to be feeding it and spurring it on. Typical, always trying to distract the masses. The virus’s official name in English is World Cup 2006. In German, it is Weltmeisterschaft 2006, or as the media refers to it: the WM.

The main culprit of this disease is Germany, however people all over the world have been infected by it. Symptoms include screaming, excessive drinking, a sudden need to wear polyester jerseys, groundless nationalism and an obsession with watching men run around on a field of grass chasing after air wrapped in leather. If you’ve never seen it, it’s quite amusing for about 4 seconds, but only because the men slightly look like the ball’s bitches.

Thankfully I have managed to avoid catching this disease and I am intent on keeping it that way. I shall do this by staying away from those that have the disease, shopping (since it heals everything), quarantining myself indoors, staying in and watching TV shows, tanning in the English Garden far away from the masses and whining about it on Le Blog.

May peace be with you and your loved ones. The next two months are going to be hell.

Le iBook

I had a fight with my iBook last night. I would be lying if I said I wasn't the one who started it. I wanted to test out the laptop and see if it would play all my movies and TV shows and it wouldn't read anything non-kosher. It wasn't too happy about store bought items either. I guess I was asking for too much too early on. I really should have taken the time out to get to know it and how it works. But there is no need for tantrum throwing.

Like last night. I put in my legit Sex and the City DVD and it kept bickering and giving me error fits and then it wouldn't give the DVD back to me! So I had to pull the plug and restart it. You know, give it a few minutes to calm down a bit. Then I googled "my white laptop is a bitch" and hallelujah, I found VLC software. It's totally free, made in France :) and lets your Mac play ANYTHING. Thing is though, I already have the damn software but it too has the habit of throwing error fits at me. So I finally went onto the official VLC website and read the lovely user manual and voila - now it works like a charm. It even spits Sex and the City back out when I ask nicely.

Sigh. A computer is just like a relationship. You just have to take your time and know which buttons to press to turn it on ;).

And if you happen to end up with a bimbo like I did, patience is a virtue.

Le Beginning

My name is Sabrina and I am an aspiring skateboarder. And by aspiring I mean that every time I walk by a skateboard display in a sports store (usually Sport Karstadt) I have to stop in my tracks, pick up a skateboard, climb on top of it while holding onto random boxes and shelves and then carefully roll up and down the isle until a) a shop attendant yells at me for skating on a kids skateboard or b) I fall. And I haven’t fallen yet :D so I normally just get yelled at for trying to live my dreams. Humpf. Welcome to Germany.

In addition to being a passionate skater, I also like to read, write, knit, ride my bike, DJ, shop, listen to music really really loudly, sing along to songs on the top of my lungs, dress up when I have no reason to, decorate, read gossip magazines in magazine shops (well, look at the pictures mainly), wander around book shops, obsessively watch bad TV shows, hang out with friends, read gossip columns and eat. I also love shoes, hats, clothes, Madonna, pop music, brit pop, rock and Sade. (but who doesn’t love Sade), my iBook G4 (no Intel processor for this chica), traveling, shopping (definitely worth mentioning twice), hanging out in cafes, being out really late at night, opening my windows really late at night and listening to the sound of the city sleeping, New York City, Paris, London, chocolate, cheese, Audrey Hepburn, Before Sunrise, Garden State, Great Expectations (the movie), What’s Eating Gilbert Grape (the movie – I have yet to read the book), Punch Drunk Love, Seinfeld, Friends, my actual real life friends, my family, enjoying the moment, pretending I know everything, trying to make people laugh, having revelations and discovering the meaning of life every other day and the color pink.

Welcome to my blog! What do you think? I know, it’s a little empty, but I just moved in so bear with me, I haven’t had time to decorate. Well, I also don’t know how to use my Mac enough in order to decorate this page.... I mean, it took me like three weeks to find out that it has a right mouse button, and then another week to find out how to use it. Oooh, which reminds me, I just bought a mouse for this thing:

Sigh. Isn’t it beautiful? Apple stopped producing them so I had to search like, around the world to find a new one. And when I say around the world, I mean ebay. This one was found in Belgium and is on it’s way to me at this very moment. How exciting is that? I am also hoping to buy the camera below:

Isn’t it gorgeous? I have to wait to buy it though since I somehow managed to spend part of my camera money. Now I have to wait until June till I get it. But that’s okay, it’s only two weeks away. It’s a very good camera and has a lot of really excellent features that I will never use. I think it is more of a fashion accessory though rather than ultra good quality. The fact that I would buy something for looks is kind of worrying, but I’m not really like that, honest. I mean, I didn’t just buy my Mac because it’s beautiful. I also bought it because it is really stable and can do loads of things. Of course I don’t know how to do most of those things…but look how shiny it is :D. And like, everyone in movies uses a Mac. Hollywood wouldn’t do that just to make people look hip. It’s obviously because Macs are known for quality too.

But anyway. I just wanted to introduce myself although I don’t really know why I really needed to though…anyone reading this is probably someone I know anyway. Hi by the way [wave]! Wherever you are in the world, I hope you are well. Thank you for checking this out and I hope you come back to visit occasionally. Anyway, I’m off to watch some Scrubs. See y’all soon!

Good night.
xx
Sabrina
